Poppy Atkinson Film Portfolio

Filmmaking

Please find below a selection of films that I have worked on over the past few years and my current projects. I have experience working as a director, editor, script writer, script editor, and casting director. I also have experience operating sound and camera equipment, including a Black Magic Camera.

12 Episodes

2025

The film follows Vienna, Albie, and Amy as they navigate their teen years and early 20s, entangled in a love triangle shaped by miscommunication and differing memories. Moments that felt significant to one are forgotten by the other, and perspectives shift as time moves on. The story explores longing, regret, and the desire to rewrite the past.

Working on this film for the past 9 months has been an incredible experience and I am so proud of what we have achieved. Myself and Mia Swift started creating this film about a year ago, inspired by our previous film, Fluidity of Truth. With Natalia Hancock and Louis Snaith we co-wrote, directed and edited the project, which was an amazing opportunity to create a film personal to each of us. Filming with the Blackmagic camera was a great privilege that allowed our creative visions to be executed beautifully.

I'd like to say a special thank you to Linnea Cramer and Mitchell Attley for their time and commitment to the project, and for being such wonderfully talented actors.

The film recently premiered at UoB Grad Fest 2025. 12 Episodes was awarded 3rd place in the audience choice category, out of all films screened at the festival.

The Movies

2024

This is a montage created for our second-year Film and History to 1960 module. We were tasked with using only footage recorded before 1960 and we decided to pair this with Weyes Blood's song 'Movies'. We began the montage with colour films that depict women as objects of the male gaze. As the song crescendos, we transitioned to black-and-white footage and highlighted the consistent depictions of women as victims of abuse. Our aim was to show how, in early Hollywood, women were subjugated and confined to these two roles.

Coming Soon....

"Burnt" is an abstract continuation of "Obsessed" a film that I created before starting university. "Burnt" explores the minds of Will, Ben and Adrian through colours, shapes, and glimmers of their past lives.

The Black Laboratory X The Puppet Place

Earlier this year I worked with The Black Laboratory and The Puppet Place, both Bristol based animation companies, to prepare and shoot a short film combining newly developed motion capture technology with traditional forms of puppetry. I worked closely with producer Claire Teesdale and director and animator Ben Mars to create ideas for the storyline and to plan the shoot. During my time as an assistant producer I learnt how to use motion capture, how to work with puppeteers, and how to puppeteer, how to direct live action for an animation film shoots, how to use lighting when shooting in front of a colour cloth and for animation.

The film is currently being finalised and should be released shortly. Unfortunately I do not have permission to share images from the shoot at this stage.
